Submission #551

The news one day is all about a major gay rights rally. Steve and Thor are both confused.

Steve initially wonders why people are fighting for the right to be happy. The issue is explained somewhat cautiously to him, and while the idea of men marrying men or women marrying women is unusual to him, he thinks that people who love each other ought to get married rather than living in sin.

Thor doesn’t understand why it isn’t already allowed. On Asgard, marriage is for any two (or three) people who love each other. Gender isn’t given a second thought, not when species is more complicating. To Thor, Giant marriage rights are a more current and relevant issue.

Soda Cans

Tony doesn’t keep cans of beer or soda in the tower. On the rare occasion that cans are brought into the tower, there is a strict rule among the Avengers that the person opening the can must warn the others before hand (it has typically come down to simply announcing “Can!”).

The reason for this rule can be stated simply: PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). To individuals who have been in an army or combat situation, the click of a soda can opening can resemble the sound of a gun being loaded.

The Avengers all have different responses to this. Steve tends to simply jump or flinch, but isn’t too bothered by it at this point. Tony shows no physical response, but it has been noted that he tends to down his drink faster than normal afterwards. Clint, if he hears the sound, tends to respond by aiming the nearest projectile in the direction of the sound. If Natasha is close enough to the opener, she will drop them like a stone. Bruce claims the sound doesn’t bother him, but the others have noticed he gets… twitchy.

Shanta has learned to just go for the bottles of soda.

Thor has even developed a response to the sound. It mostly consists of getting out of the others’ way. However, as he often forgets his friends’ responses, and he has taken quite a liking to the sugary, foaming liquid, he is usually one of two culprits for forgetting the warning.

The second culprit is Loki, and though he claims ignorance, the others are certain that, true to his nature, he’s simply stirring up mischief.

Six Avengers and a Kitten

A rather silly fic I wrote with kneedeepinreverie about Loki the cat!

Thor still likes to go out drinking with Erik. Due to the obnoxious singing and frequent fights, they can never go to the same bar twice.

Shanta adores Thor and Thor is pretty fond of Shanta in return. He’s the only Avenger that agrees to tea parties, at these tea parties Shanta plays with his hair: braiding it, curing it, and putting it in pigtails.

There’s actually seven Avengers in the movie.

Dr. Hank “Ant-Man” Pym is present in various important scenes, but never in full size.

When Thor calls everyone “Petty and tiny”, the last bit is for Dr. Pym’s benefit.

“Only one of you can ascend to the throne. But both of you were born to be kings.”

After Thor was sworn in as king, Odin had planned to give Gungnir to Loki. He knew Thor lacked the wisdom needed to guide Asgard, just as he knew Loki lacked the strength. He realised his sons, while not fit to rule on their own, complemented each other perfectly. As the eldest, Thor may have been destined for the throne but it was Loki who the new king would always look to for advice, Loki who could act as diplomat while Thor lead the warriors to glory, and Loki who would temper Thor’s arrogance and recklessness with clarity and logic. They were meant to stand side by side. Bequeathing Gungnir to Loki would have demonstrated to all of Asgard, and to the brothers themselves, that Odin considered them equals.

Unfortunately the Frost Giants sneaking into the treasure vault cut the coronation short and he never had the opportunity to tell Loki what he had planned. Loki may have seen himself as inferior, but Odin always saw his sons as equals. Both, truly, born to be kings.

Odin didn’t favor Thor over Loki, and he loved both his sons dearly.

Loki just tends to fabricate lies that suit him, then go on to believe them heartily. Just like he believes that it was Thor that let him fall of the Bifrost.

Thor loves self check-outs

There was a headcanon somewhere - I don’t think it was here because I just checked the Thor tag and didn’t find it - that Thor discovered self check-outs and became obsessed with them.

So I made a little Photoshop thing of Thor “helping” other shoppers with their self check-outs and Tony’s reaction when he finds out, which I posted over on my tumblr:

Hope I did this whole submission thing right, I’ve never submitted anything anywhere before :)

You did just fine, shawarma-and-mead!

The Jar…

While Steve put the so-called “Swear Jar” into effect for the Avengers, Clint insisted that Tony ALSO be given his own separate jar.  Specifically for every time he references an ACDC song.  Tony insisted he did not need such a jar.

Since the introduction of the jars, Tony has begun to curb his habit of wailing, “Thunderstruck,” whenever Thor does something particularly awesome, and has managed to cut his singing in the shower back to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath songs only.

To date, the “ACDC” jar is tied with the “Swear Jar.”
