Steve claims that his father died in WWI, but it isn’t true. Steve’s father made it out alive and got home, where he had a job in a factory.
To protest poor working conditions and diminished wages, the workers went on strike. A couple of weeks later, Joseph was beaten to death by policemen paid by the factory owner.
The factory owner was Howard Stark Sr.

When Steve travels (and he does travel —New York might be his home state, but if he’s going to be some kind of national icon, he might as well get to know the people he’s representing), there is no power in the universe that can stop him from visiting every single Waffle House or equivalent truck-stop diner he comes across. He loves the food and the availability of it (in some places, there is a Waffle House at every highway exit, he loves the people, and he even enjoys the awful coffee.

Even though every time it’s ended in tears and dry heaving into the toilet (with Tony, of all people, patting his back), Steve insists on watching every Holocaust movie (Schindler’s List, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) at least once, so he’ll feel a little less guilty about missing the hell that most of Europe endured during WWII.

Not long after they married (in the early- to mid-sixties), Howard and Maria Stark had a son.
Howard adored the little boy more than anyone or anything else in the world (except Maria).
