Not long after they married (in the early- to mid-sixties), Howard and Maria Stark had a son.
Howard adored the little boy more than anyone or anything else in the world (except Maria). He took pride in the boy’s brightness, bragged about him to anyone he could force to listen, and spent lots of time with him, talking to him, playing with him, teaching him and looking forward to the day when his son would take his rightful place in Stark Industries.

Tony used to think that he hated his father.
Howard Stark was a man that was never pleased with anything. Not with his latest design or theorem, no with his wife, not with the women that weren’t his wife, not the glass of scotch or the next glass after that. Not with his own son. No matter what Tony did, no matter what breakthrough invention, award, or honor he achieved, his father always made him feel like a disappointment. He was nineteen when Obadiah broke the news about the accident and proceeded to spend the next week binge drinking and throwing bottles at old news reels before finally stumbling into a shareholder’s meeting with a beard and a catastrophic hangover and assumed control of his father’s company.
It would be so much easier if he just hated him.

Darcy is actually hated by a lot of the people at SHIELD, and Jane has to stick up for her.
Darcy would often make comments about how she didn’t understand why there were so many “daddy issues” and that they should all just kiss and make up. She was teasing, but within a week, Loki was put back into his cell twice because she kept teasing him which would infuriate him to attack her, and Tony would reply with sarcastic comments and go for a beer later.
The truth is, Darcy was always a “Mommy and Daddy’s Girl” and doesn’t exactly know how it is to feel unloved or uncared for, or get into fight after fight with her father like Loki and Tony do. Her parents keep her close to them because they are afraid of losing her. She had to work even harder than other college students to get the internship as Jane’s assistant, and after the incident in New Mexico, they had a good mind about sending her home. They could, since they were paying for her college, so they owed her.
Eventually, Thor had a talk with her about her “daddy issues” comments, and she learned. But everytime she tried to apologize, she would fear for her life considering how powerful Tony was and how deadly Loki was.

Maria Stark isn’t actually Tony’s mother. Peggy Carter is. The night Howard recovered the Tesseract, she was in a deep despair over not being able to find Steve, and what started with him comforting her resulted in them sleeping together. After their son was born, Peggy felt unable to look after him, and returned to England, leaving Anthony with Howard. Howard met Maria, and they fell in love, getting married and raising Tony as their own son.
(I know that Peggy apparently stays in America, according to a cut scene from The Avengers, and that if Tony was born around that time he’d be about eighty, but… let me have this ;_;)
